“I’ve seen kids come in here with no self confidence and seen the changes that learning an instrument can bring about. It’s amazing to see what piping can do. Learning a skill, making friendships that will last a lifetime, being part of something.”
A tutor in Govan schools, former World Championships winner and member of the Strathclyde Police Band
“The Preston Lodge Pipe Band has grown quickly from a tentative group of new players into the flourishing figurehead of our school and its community.”

The Trustees, staff, and all those associated with Scottish Schools Pipes and Drums Trust, send our heartfelt condolences to Eilidh's famliy and her friends. Eilidh performed in the winning Freestyle event at the Scottish Schools PIpe Band Championships in March. The pipers, Eilidh amongst them, played with a musicality beyond their years, and all Sgoil Lionacleit's young Freestyle performers came together in shared endeavour and camaraderie to create a special and memorable experience. Thank you Eilidh and all your friends in the band.
Today the tragic news was confirmed that one of our own has been taken from us. We don’t know why. What we do know is that Eilidh was a kind, gentle, talented, fun, and loving person who we are privileged to have known. As a pipe band and as a school we are united in our pain and grief and although we can’t begin to imagine what her family are going through right now, our thoughts and our prayers are with them.
Amongst other things, we know that Eilidh loved piping. Her commitment and hard work as a member of our band was there for everyone to see. The travelling, the overnight stays, the practises and performances which she would faithfully turn up for were all carried out without complaint but always with a smile. Our band will be much less without her. Eilidh was a huge part of our winning performance in Edinburgh this year. We will miss her terribly but although she is not here we will always remember her. Eilidh, you will always be a winner in our hearts.
