The Kinross Schools Pipe Band

Welcome

This programme aims to:

• Offer pupils in Kinross High School and associated primary schools the chance to learn the pipes and drums;
• Open pathways to music-making in a school pipe band and other musical groups, as well as to community pipe bands.  We aim to form a competition pipe band which will enable pupils to represent Kinross Schools at competitive and social functions throughout the district;
• Support pupils to achieve SQA accredited qualifications in piping and snare drumming through the Curriculum for Excellence and the PDQB (Piping and Drumming Qualifications Board), thereby helping to raise attainment and open up pathways to higher education in these subjects;
• Support young people to raise attainment and achievement, and build self-esteem, social networks, resilience and confidence.

The Kinross Schools Pipe Band programme is organised by the voluntary committee, The Kinross Youth Pipes and Drums (KYPAD) in partnership with the Kinross community schools.  The programme is funded by Perth and Kinross Council with the Scottish Schools Pipes and Drums Trust: www.sspdt.org.uk.
