Job Creation
So far,
SSPDT has co-created over 50 piping and drumming roles to provide tuition in state schools, helping to maintain, revive or start-up the fragile ecology of teaching and learning that keeps traditions and music-making alive.

However there are still many learning communities, and some entire Local Education Authorities, where the pipes and drums are still not offered as instruments, and many thousands of pupils who still don’t have the chance to learn, so there remains much to be done to help fill gaps in provision. Most recently, we have been pleased to partner High Life Highland, and e-Sgoil Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar and the Lewis and Harris Youth Pipe Band Supporters Association to co-create three new full-time snare drumming posts, and a framework for piping and drumming posts in Elgin and Forres in Moray. New teaching roles that have been delayed because of the Covid-19 pandemic are in Glasgow as well as Perth and Kinross. We welcome enquiries and look forward to developing more programmes.
Paid Internships
Internships are tailored to individuals, some in partnership with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, for pipers or snare drummers who want a career in teaching in schools. Past interns have successfully joined instrumental teaching teams employed by Falkirk, Dundee, East Lothian and Eilean Siar Councils.
