School Crest

The Govan Schools programmes started in 2014 and within a few short months some of the pupils had progressed so fast that they were able to enter a quartet of pipers into the Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championships!

About 150 pupils are now learning piping and drumming at Pirie Park, Riverside, St Constantine’s and St Savour’s Primary Schools and in Govan High School and Lourdes Secondary School. The band is growing in size. They have played in community parades, at the switching on of the Christmas lights in Govan and for Children in Need.

Wee Govan Pipers

BBC Alba followed the young Govan Pipers for eighteen months – and an hour long documentary was first broadcast on 1st January 2016. A clip from the  film ‘The Wee Govan Pipers’ can be seen above, and the full version is available on BBC iplayer.
